Example dossier
Villa des Érables, from plan to dossier
A two-storey house with a garage, drawn and wired in ES Schémas: 13 rooms, 2 boards, 21 circuits. Here is its dossier sheet by sheet, and what the RGIE checks make of it. The client, address and site are fictitious.
The dossier
13 sheets, not one drawn by hand
Layout plans, single-line diagrams, board layouts and the legend all come from the same project. Click or tap a sheet to open it full size. ES Schémas writes your dossiers in English, French or Dutch. In the app, the guided tour uses another project, Linden House.

The RGIE checks at work
The same house, with eight common mistakes
To show the checks at work, we took the Villa des Érables and slipped in mistakes you come across on site. ES Schémas finds each of these deliberately planted mistakes, cites the RGIE clause and takes you to the item concerned.
- 30 mA · RCD typeType AC RCDs are no longer allowed: RCDs in domestic installations are at least type A.To correct · 5.3.5.3 a
- O · 30 mA RCDThis circuit supplies socket outlets not intended for a fixed appliance and a bathroom or shower: no RCD of 30 mA at most protects it, whereas one is required downstream of the main RCD. Circuits at SELV or with electrical separation are exempt. To correct · 4.2.4.3 b; 7.1.4.3
- P · 30 mA RCDThis circuit supplies a bathroom or shower: no RCD of 30 mA at most protects it, whereas one is required downstream of the main RCD. Circuits at SELV or with electrical separation are exempt. To correct · 4.2.4.3 b; 7.1.4.3
- 30 mA · protected circuits11 final circuits downstream: 8 at most per 30 mA RCD.To correct · 4.2.4.3 b

- B · number of sockets9 single or multiple socket outlets on this final circuit: at most 8 per final circuit. To correct · 5.3.5.2 b

And once corrected
The published version of the dossier has nothing left to correct; it has slightly fewer checks, as the socket outlets and the appliance added for the mistakes are gone. 7 points remain “to check” that only an on-site inspection can settle: the qualifications of the person in charge of the work, how the supply cable is laid, where the main RCD sits, bathroom zones, earth electrode and equipotential bonding, boards, and the EV charger installation.
Existing installation
A 1968 house, before its sale
A terraced house in Liège whose installation was begun in 1968: main switch Q0, fuses and VOB in conduit, sockets without an earth contact in the bedrooms, an electric cooker, then in 1995 a 300 mA RCD, the washing machine and the water heater on circuit breakers. Earth electrode measured at 58 Ω. The checks apply the rules for installations begun before 1 October 1981, with the derogations of Part 8 of Book 1; the devices added in 1995 follow their own date, hence the period from 1991 to 2000 shown for them. 5 points remain to correct. Client and address are fictitious.
- E · 30 mA RCDThis circuit supplies a bathroom or shower: no RCD of 30 mA at most protects it, whereas one is required downstream of the main RCD. Circuits at SELV or with electrical separation are exempt. To correct · 4.2.4.3 b; 7.1.4.3
- H · 30 mA RCDThis circuit supplies a washing machine, tumble dryer or dishwasher: no RCD of 30 mA at most protects it, whereas one is required downstream of the main RCD.To correct · 4.2.4.3 b
- Network · earth resistance58 Ω: over 30 Ω. Neither the current rule nor the derogation (one 30 mA RCD for the lighting, one per group of 16 sockets at most) is met: without a 30 mA RCD: A, B, D, E, F, G, H; fixed appliances without a 30 mA RCD, derogation open to interpretation: C, I.To correct · 4.2.4.3 b; 8.2.1, 16
- D · cross-section and protectionA 20 A fuse exceeds the 16 A allowed for 2.5 mm².To correct · 4.4.1.4, table 4.11
- F · socket earth contactSockets without an earth contact and without a 30 mA RCD: F.1, F.2, F.3 and F.4. In an old installation, sockets without an earth contact remain allowed only if the wiring has no protective conductor and an RCD of 30 mA at most protects them.To correct · 5.3.5.2 b; 8.2.1, 6 b
The dossier’s “Part 8 rules applied” sheet lists only the checks that cite Part 8.
What Part 8 allows
- 300 mA · isolation functionThe RCD at the origin of the installation does not provide the isolation function: Q0, upstream in the main board, provides it, which the derogation allows for an installation carried out before 2 July 2003 (8.2.2, 2). Installation period used: between 16/09/1991 and 06/05/2000.Derogation applied · 4.2.4.3 b; 5.3.3.1 a.3; 8.2.2, 2
- Circuit compositionDerogation 8.2.1, 5: existing circuits that are not dedicated to the appliances listed in 5.2.1.2 (washing machine, dishwasher, tumble dryer, cooking, heating, appliances of 2600 W or more) may remain in service. Not applicable by derogation · 5.2.1.2; 8.2.1, 5
- I · energy limitation classFirst-line circuit breaker without the energy limitation class 3 marking: allowed for an installation begun before 31 December 2007 (8.2.2, 3). Installation period used: between 16/09/1991 and 06/05/2000.Derogation applied · 5.3.5.5 e; 8.2.2, 3

EV charger and photovoltaics
A small job, a short dossier
The “EV charger” and “Photovoltaics” projects start with the supply, the main board and the dedicated circuit. The dossier opens with the technical sheet the RGIE asks for on these jobs.
